the way the universe works? part 2
How is life sustained? Every living thing is dependent upon members of its own race for survival. In addition, every living thing is dependent on innumerable factors and living beings beyond its control. If a lion has nothing to hunt, the lion will die; if a bee doesn't have flowers to make honey, the bees will die; if a tree doesn't have a supply of carbon dioxide, the tree will die: it is impossible to say that life is self-sufficient. As far as I know, the best we can do to understand life is to simply admit that we don't understand life, its driving force is beyond our realm of knowledge and undoubtedly beyond our control. Various people have looked to science, religion, and idealisms of freedom attempting to quantify, understand, and define similar questions with equal results; our greatest thinkers come closer to answers each generation only to find out that the question is much bigger and in depth than they originally thought. My point is thus; if you believe yourself to be scientifically oriented, you have no right to deny the ideas of religion or philosophy. The same is true of people who believe in religion or philosophy; just becasue someone takes a different approach than you, does not mean that they are not ultimately looking for the same end result. Therefore a priest can be an invaluable source of knowledge to a scientist if the scientist puts the priests beliefs into the context of his research.
